Want to help? If you love the Blackstone or the Blackstone Canal or just Worcester and its revitalized neighborhood south of Union Station then join us on September 6th. You’ll have fun and be helpful at the same time.

What will I do as a volunteer?

We have lots of opportunities for Canal Fest day. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@blackstonecanal.org if you are interested in any of the job opportunities listed below.

  • Info. Booth & Greeters: Help festival patrons find vendors and activities.
  • Children's Activities: We offer a full range of children's activities continuously throughout the day, including face painting, storytelling, arts & crafts, boat races in the replicated canal, and much more!
  • Raffle Booth: Sell 50/50 tickets.
  • Hydration Station: Provide water, soda, & ice for the thirsty volunteers (and vendors?)
  • Security & Festival Patrol: Help keep the Canal Fest a safe, comfortable, and happy place for all patrons.
  • Stage Crew: Help with technical set up and running of performance stage and ensure a smooth transition between performances. Previous experience a plus.
  • Transportation & Logistics: moving people, moving gear, moving things along.

What is expected of me as a volunteer?

We ask that people work a minimum of 3 hours at the festival. We also ask that you stay in touch with your assigned committee chairperson during the period leading up to the festival, and that you show up on time and ready to work for your designated shifts. As a volunteer, you’ll be representing the festival and our community, so we ask that you be polite, professional and courteous at all times. And of course, have fun!

How old do I have to be?

We welcome volunteers of all ages, although some restrictions do apply and some jobs are only open to volunteers who are 18 years and older. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information.

Can I volunteer before or after the weekend?

Most of the volunteering is done at the actual festival itself. There are, however, a limited number of jobs that are available before the festival day. There are always opportunities for involvement, so please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
